Another EU-project in Ukraine
Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia and the United Kingdom (with support from ICMPD) have started a migration related project to “step up its management migration system”. Every involved country has his own job:
* Hungary will support Ukraine to open up eight “screening centers” in Eastern Ukraine. In this centers it should be decided if migrants are “refugees” or if they are “illegal migrants”.
* Poland will support Ukraine in carry out the asylum procedure, with focus on the interviews.
* Slovakia will provide country-of-origin information to Ukraine.
* Czech Republic will support Ukraine in the point “detention centers”.
* U.K. will support Ukraine in the question of “return of illegal migrants”.
* The Netherlands will support Ukraine in setting up a visa-regime “in line with EU-standards”
The project has started in February 2008 and takes 24 month. The European Commission supports the project with 2,2 Million Euro.
